Gamification is definitely a hot topic these days with businesses increasingly demanding game-like features in their business applications to increase employees’ participation in the business improvement processes and as a replacement for costly legacy systems.
With our background in the e-commerce and online games industry for the last 13 years, General Electric Korea approached Arcanys to co-develop a company-specific social networking site that allows its employees to send appreciative messages to each other, complete various gaming challenges and achievements by interacting with each other: ThxBox.
The goal of this platform was not only to replace a costly worldwide paper-based program running for decades and consuming lots of manpower, but also to make it more fun and increase the staffs’ participation in improving professional relationships within the company. This tool helps the Human Resources department as well as supervisors to spot which of their employees is the most helpful and effective at his job, which is usually hard to recognize in big corporations.
General Electric has successfully rolled out a test version of the application in Korea, with now more than 600 active users, and plans to roll it out worldwide in 2013 and 2014 with additional features.
While this product has been specifically developed for a customer's need, the principles used in this application can be useful for any company looking at improving the team spirit of their employees. If you want to know more about how it works, please check out the dedicated site for ThxBox.
